Dental Health Team

When we say dental jobs, all that we could ever think of are dentists. Nonetheless, contrary to what most people know; varieties of jobs areavailable in the dental world of careers and occupation. There are different sorts of dental jobs that I know;  but even if they do differ so much in job descriptions and responsibilities, they have one common goal; it is to promote dental health care of the community through prevention, promotion and rehabilitation. These jobs can be utilized by those who would want to enter the field of dentistry or people who desired to put on their own private dental clinics. In this article, I am here to introduce different kinds of dental jobs for the awareness of many.

                First among the dental health team is known as the dentists “extra hands”, the dental assistants. These individuals act as the dentist’s indispensable helpers during every procedure. They handle most of the dental instruments when the dentist is working with the client. They are responsible in preparing the sterile field, passing the instruments during the treatment and the one who sterilizes the equipments and apparatus before and after everyprocedure. They are also the ones who keep the mouth of the patient dry during the dental process. Assistants, if only trained well in some special procedures; they can be allowed to take x-rays of the dental cavity, removing sutures and remove cement leftover from fillings.

Another cast of character from the dental health care team is the dental hygienist. This dental job requires a college degree and a licensure approval. The dental hygienist concentrates and focuses more on the preventive care of these patients. Preventive measures like the intensive cleaning of the teeth and oral cavity, removing plaques and deposits, and early detection of dental diseases are the common concern of these dental professionals. They are also allowed to analyze and diagnose some dental circumstances for the dentists to focus into. Dental Health care awareness is also one of their major responsibilities. They educate clients about dental hygiene and dental disease prevention.

Let’s move over from the assistants and hygienists, an addition, we introduce the periodontist. This type of job deals with the monitoring of gums and the other adjacent structures of the mouth. These professionals assess on these zones, diagnose and rehabilitate several conditions concerning the gums, for example: Gingivitis. Dental implantation is also one of the procedures that are specialized by this dental profession.

Last but certainly not the least, are the orthodontists. Among the dental health care team, they are the ones that diagnose and treat conditions relating to the alignment of the teeth. Among the other dental jobs, this one focuses more on the aesthetic side of dentistry. They are responsible in making our smiles more pleasurable through the perfect alignment of our teeth. Their job needs a person’s touch of        perfection, zeal and accuracy.These specialists are the only ones who are licensed to mount appropriate and various braces into the client’s teeth. They are also the ones who prescribe materials helpful in adjusting the patient’s bite.

These dental jobs have different varieties of responsibilities but just like what I said above, they have that one common goal and it is to maximize and uplift the community dental health condition.
